Rave

Rave is a blanket term that describes all of the many forms of music that can be characterized as electronic dance music. Rave, then, is actually a nickname given to the genre due to its popularity for being played at Raves, large parties where drugs and dancing all night long are common. Rave is known for being energetic and fast paced and usually features the use of samples, loops, and/or synthesizers. Sub-genres of Rave include trance music, ambient music, and even chillout music. Each of these different forms of music plays a very special and unique role at Raves. Trance music, for example, helps attendees at Raves to get into the party spirit, while chillout music gives them a way to relax and take a break. Rave actually originated as a spin-off of sorts from popular house music. At first, Rave was merely a combination of acid house, breakbeat, and techno music. Today, however, Rave has a unique sound all its own. To hear real Rave, however, people shouldn’t feel that they have to go to Raves or to be involved in the drug scene. Raves are actually just one of the few places where Rave is played. It is also popular at night clubs and any place where this is dancing and nightlife. Raves, then, are just one of the options for enjoying Rave Music.

RobotUnderground.Net maintains an extensive list of the most popular Rave artists. Well known performers, past and present, on the Rave scene include Nebula 2, Acen, Altern-8, The Prodigy Experience, The Utah Saints, The Shamen En-Tact, and many others. Many of these first appeared at some of the most major Raves where people from all over the world, mostly teens, would gather to party and to enjoy the free spirited fun of Raves. However, since Raves are not nearly as popular as they once were, bands such as these have had to find other areas in which to make their mark. Fortunately, there are many radio stations, especially on college campuses, that are totally devoted to playing music from the genre. So, while Raves might be somewhat “dead” for the most part, the music is alive and well.

Today, Rave Music encompasses lots of different styles of music or even styles that are a mixture of many other styles. Some fans enjoy listening to the music that reminds them of their young partying days, while other, newer fans simply enjoy the sounds and the feelings they get from listening to this fun and very special music. Whatever the reason a person is a fan, there are some truly great and original Rave tunes that are simply dying to be heard.
